About me
Inspired in need to help a grieving friend when her beloved horse passed, began Quint-Essential Horsehair Jewelry & Art. The meaningful, beautiful jewelry I made, gave my friend a chance to celebrate her horses' life. Word spread, requests kept coming and then I opened shop!
As a horse owner myself for many years, I've found nothing is more soothing than a small token to cherish, preserving your horses' memory forever.
Only a small amount of your horses' tail hair is needed, to make any bracelet, necklace, earrings, key chains. I also make shadowbox memorials of many sizes and colors and can include your horses hair, horseshoes, pictures, even halters. Special requests always welcome! My paintings are equine inspired, and I have many originals, and prints available for purchase as well.

Horsehair Jewelry Information
First, no horses were ever harmed for their hair!
Cutting hair from the tail:Hold the tail at the end of the tail bone, select a section of hair from the center of the horses tail, under the tail bone. Cut a pencils' thickness (about 7mm), from directly underneath the tail bone. You will not notice the hair missing. Also, the hair is less likely to be sun damaged or frayed which can weaken the integrity of the jewelry. ( I do my best to remove any weak or frayed bits before braiding)
The hair should always be from the tail with the only exception to make earrings or key chains -the mane is finer with less tensile strength.
Hair for a bracelet should be at least 8 inches long. For a hat band, stampede string or necklace at least 24-30 inches long and for a key chain or earrings the hair can be just about any length and thickness. The thickness' will vary ever so slightly, and I can make the jewelry as thick or as thin as you would like given there is enough to play with.
When braided, the overall length shortens which is why I ask for more than the exact size jewelry so the longer the better. If there is any left over or if you send me the whole tail (happens a lot) I will return everything with your order. I only take what is needed to make your jewelry.

Please mail your horsehair to the address at the bottom of the page. Email me your contact information sizing and choices. For shadowboxes please contact me so we can discuss size and what you would like inside. For paintings and prints, please contact me. Paintings are one of a kind and I will only have prints after one is sold.

Pricing
Our most popular items and their simple options are listed here with current pricing. I frequently add new charms which are all pictured in my album on Facebook. If there is a charm you are looking for that I do not happen to have, I am more than happy to find you that perfect charm - depending on the source and metal it may affect the price and may add time to the order. Please check the comments on the charm pictures to be sure the charms are not temporarily out of stock as well, I will remove the pictures if they are no longer available. I can customize just about anything and strive to exceed all expectations, so please do not hesitate to ask, fill out my contact form, call or email me.
Paintings, Prints
Prints, 9.5" x 11 -$20. Paintings, average 12" x 14" begin at $75. Please inquire for more information. Unfortunately, I do not take requests on paintings.
Shadowboxes
Shadowboxes start at $50 and go up depending on size and design. You may choose the size, hinged front, and color. Colors are commonly barn wood, black and antique white. Horsehair flowers are $20 additional. You can either send me pictures in pdf form or if you already have them printed as well as other items such as horseshoes, ribbons, numbers, even halters, etc, together we can memorialize your best friend exactly as you want!

Earrings- Stirling or Stainless lever-back closures with your choice of horsehair tassel or braided bosal. Your choice of charm. $25.
Key-chains/ Fly Tassels- Choose from lobster clasp or ring, and from four different end-caps. Tassel or flat or round braided bosal. Your choice of charm, $20.
Bracelets- Choose your end-caps, lobster or toggle toggle clasp, includes your choice of charm. Round braided. $45.
Necklaces- Choose your end-caps, lobster or toggle toggle clasp, includes your choice of charm. Round or flat braided. $60.
Hat Bands & Stampede Strings- Choose your end-caps, lobster, toggle clasp or slider, includes your choice of charm. Round or flat braided. $70.
